Our senior Family Law Solicitor, Claudia Taylor, is an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (‘FDRP’) through the Attorney General’s Department as well as being an Accredited Family Law Specialist.
Claudia has over 20 years’ experience working in Family Law, having been admitted in 2003 and has also been accredited by the Law Society of NSW as a Specialist in Family Law.
As an FDRP Claudia helps parties resolve disputes related to children, property and child support in a peaceful and constructive manner.
As an FDRP in the mediation process, Claudia finds it important to:
1. Create a Safe Environment: Claudia ensures that each person has a chance to talk, be heard, and respond to the issues without fear of interruption or judgment.
2. Maintain Focus: Claudia will keep everyone focused on communicating effectively and working towards resolving the dispute in a constructive manner.
3. Facilitate Communication: By asking questions, Claudia helps individuals identify and communicate their goals, desires, concerns, and reasons behind their positions.
4. Clarify Issues: Claudia helps clarify the issues at hand and suggests ways for the parties to discuss the dispute productively.
5. Generate Options: Claudia assists the parties in developing options for resolution and encourages them to consider whether these solutions are realistic and acceptable to all involved.
6. Encourage Agreement: Claudia strives to help the parties reach an agreement where appropriate, ensuring that everyone understands the terms of any agreement reached.
7. Refer to Other Services: If necessary, Claudia may refer the parties to other helpful services or professionals that can assist with specific aspects of the dispute.
It is important to note that as an FDRP, Claudia will not:
1. Take Sides: Claudia remains neutral and does not take sides, make decisions, or suggest specific solutions. The decision-making ultimately lies with the parties involved.
2. Dictate Agreements: Claudia does not tell the parties what they should agree to do. It is up to the participants themselves to decide on the terms of any agreement.
3. Assign Blame: Claudia does not determine who is right or wrong in the dispute. Instead, the focus is on finding a mutually acceptable solution that addresses the interests and needs of all parties involved.
By following these guidelines and principles, the mediation process can help parties in conflict work towards a resolution in a collaborative and constructive manner.
· that everyone can live with, not making a judgment.
· give legal, financial or other expert advice – you can get advice before, during and after mediation if you choose.
· provide counselling – you can get counselling or other support before, during and after mediation if you choose.
