The Sydney District Court – Criminal Division is located at the Downing Centre court complex, which used to be the historical Mark Foy’s department store. It shares its registry with the Downing Centre Local Court.
The District Court is a Court of original jurisdiction (ie, where matters are adjudicated on and heard to finality for the first time) and also an appellate Court (where criminal matters from the Local Court are heard on appeal).
In its original jurisdiction, the Court deals with serious criminal charges such as robbery, serious drug supply, serious fraud and sexual assault.
Our criminal lawyers appear before the Sydney District Court regularly, both in its original jurisdiction and on appeals from the various NSW Local Courts.
